A couple of weeks ago, Glen and I had our engagement shoot with Helena from Yeah Yeah Photography. She took us to a forest in Stellenbosch where we had a tea party, read books, ate cake and generally had a fun afternoon. Before sharing a few photos with you, I would love to leave you with some tips on how to plan an engagement shoot that is fun and a little bit quirky.
Planning Your Own Engagement Shoot
1. Choose your photographer. Select someone who has a style you like and who is willing to be fun and different. As soon as we started telling Helena our ideas, she got excited and started throwing in ideas of her own. Working alongside someone who is creative and willing to do fun things will make the whole process that much more enjoyable.
2. Pick a location. We have already chosen our wedding theme and we decided to incorporate some of it into our engagement shoot as well. We wanted a pretty forest so we asked Helena for her recommendations. What a good choice that was!
3. Add some props. We had a carpet to sit on and a little table along with tea cups that Glen’s parents had bought for us (the most beautiful tea cups you will ever see!) and cake. Helena brought bunting and some vintage books too. Having props will help you to feel comfortable in front of the camera. Getting to do something in the photos will also make them a little more interesting as well.
